THE HEALING MIND

Those of us who have come into the knowledge of Truth through Christian Science find great pleasure in expressing our gratitude to God for its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. We are grateful not only that she has given us this joyous religion and demonstrable Science, but that her revelation of Truth to this age is increasingly permeating the thought of all mankind, uncovering and destroying errors long latent.

Sixty years ago physicians were not generally telling their patients that disease is basically mental, nor were the physical scientists averring that matter is a mental construct and that all estimates of it are shifting and relative. The nations of the world had only faint glimpses of a society of peoples based on the understanding that all men are brothers. We are living in a time of extraordinary renaissance, in which there are evidences that the light which "shineth in darkness" is dispelling, albeit gradually, the gloom which for so long "comprehended it not."

In the field of therapeutics Christian Scientists are keenly alert to the changes taking place in the thought around them. And while they observe with gratitude the growing awareness of the mental nature of disease, as a result of Mrs. Eddy's discovery, they are cognizant of the fallacy in various current systems. For these systems presume that disease is uncovered by devious explorations into the so-called mind that produces it and is healed by this same mind; whereas Christian Science shows that mortal mind has nothing in it with which to heal itself, since it has no real existence, intelligence, or power.
