I wish to express my sincere gratitude...

I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me during the past nineteen years.

When I began to study this Science, I was very timid and always afraid to express my opinions. I was brought up in a German Lutheran church and was taught to be humble and to respect all mankind, but I found myself a very fearful and sick man. After continued study of Christian Science, I became a different man, having been healed of ulcers of the stomach, constipation, and fallen arches, also of neuralgia of many years' standing and many other ills.

One of my outstanding experiences came on the first day of May, 1945. As I was returning from my work, a newspaper truck going forty miles an hour struck me and threw me up in the air. I turned a complete somersault and landed on my right hand and hip. For a moment I felt as if I were in another world, but the first thought that came to me was "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). I did not lose consciousness at all and immediately was up on my feet. The truck driver asked me to go to the hospital, but I said, "I am not hurt, and I want to go home." When I arrived home my wife saw no evidence of this experience until the people who had brought me home told her about it. We thought it best to call a Christian Science practitioner, which we did for protection, because so many people were making an issue of the situation.
