Those who know little of the...

Those who know little of the healing power of Christian Science sometimes think it incredible that Science should perform such a healing as the setting of broken bones. I should like to express my gratitude for a very quick healing of a broken rib, through relying entirely on Science.

When walking near the house one day, I slipped on some wet leaves, falling heavily and striking my side on an iron bar. I managed to get back to the house, but the pain was so intense that I asked for help from a practitioner. The lower rib was broken, and the two ends were protruding into the flesh.

In one of her poems Mrs. Eddy writes (Poems, p.12):

"O'er waiting harpstrings of the mind
There sweeps a strain,
Low, sad, and sweet, whose measures bind
The power of pain.

"And wake a white-winged angel throng
Of thoughts, illumed
By faith, and breathed in raptured song,
With love perfumed."

The power of pain was certainly bound that night. Before I went to bed, the practitioner reminded me of our Leader's words in Science and Health (p. 496): "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being." This statement arrested my thought, and I went to sleep knowing that nothing inharmonious could invade my true being.

I awoke in the morning perfectly healed. The bone had knit together and was perfectly flat, and I was free from pain. That afternoon I was sawing logs in the garden. I can never say how grateful I am to Mrs. Eddy for giving us the right understanding of God. I am also very grateful to the practitioner, for her clear realization of the truth helped to bring about this beautiful healing.— (Miss) Dorothy Margaret Hooper, Purley, Surrey, England.
