"This hour of development"

What a beautiful word is "love," conveying in its spiritual meaning the bounteous benevolence of the Father-Mother, God! Imbued with tenderness, Love is ever pouring forth the richness of its blessings, fortifying the understanding and making pure one's affections.

Paul made two most helpful statements regarding the love of Love: "Love is the fulfilling of the law" (Rom. 13:10); and, "Love never faileth" (I Cor. 13:8, American Standard Version). Only in the true sense of loving— the consciousness and expression of divine Love—does one find fulfillment of his desires and freedom from fear of failure. Mary Baker Eddy points out on page 516 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that "Love, redolent with unselfishness bathes all in beauty and light." It is in this light that one perceives God's work as finished and perfect.

What is it, then, that claims to obscure this light, blinding one to Love's outpouring? Is it not mortal mind's belief that life is material and that man is at the mercy of unstable and ever-changing conditions? Befogged by a false sense of substance, thought clings to persons and things for protection, contentment, and supply. When these fail, suffering sense cries out: "Oh, the cruel injustice of it! Friends, family, health, supply— all have failed me and I am left without comfort."
