In grateful acknowledgment of...
In grateful acknowledgment of the blessings that have come to me through my study of Christian Science, I desire to submit herewith my testimony.
From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me,
From mist and shadow into Truth's clear day;
The dawn of all things real is breaking o'er me,
My heart is singing: I have found the
way.
These words from a well-loved loved hymn (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 64) portray clearly the experience of those who enter the path of Christian Science. I want to express, as best I can in words, my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for our Leader and her blessed revelation of Christian Science.
I am grateful to God for having led me to the healing truths of Christian Science, which have guided and sustained me for many years. For all the activities of our loved church I am grateful, but particularly for the periodicals and the Reading Rooms. For years before I was a member of a branch church the Reading Room was for me "as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land" (Isa. 32:2). Times without number I have gone to these spiritual oases with a heavy heart and a sense of futility and found the heavenly manna that restored my soul. The Word of God was always found to be present to heal and to bless through the Bible and the writings of our dear Leader.
With the help of consecrated practitioners I have had many physical healings, among which are those of pyorrhea, athlete's foot, colds, influenza, and a severe case of cramps. Also, I have been healed of social drinking and the use of tobacco, tea, and coffee.
I am grateful for the helping hands and encouraging words of experienced Scientists; for membership in The Mother Church; for the opportunity to serve in a branch church as a Sunday School teacher; for the blessing of class instruction; and for all the hope and comfort that Christian Science has brought to me. When we consider what Mrs. Eddy has provided for us, to say merely that we are grateful seems so inadequate! In her own words (Science and Health, p. 3), "Action expresses more gratitude than speech." and my prayer is that my daily life may attest an abiding gratitude. —Joseph Bennett Robberson, Santa Paula, California.
