I wish to acknowledge through...
I wish to acknowledge through the pages of the Christian Science Sentinel the healing and corrective power of Truth as revealed to us in the teachings of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, and the inspired writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
When Christian Science was first presented to me a friend gave me a card which entitled me to a reserved seat at a Christian Science lecture. Upon my arrival at the church edifice I was surprised to see large crowds standing outside the front and side entrances. The auditorium of the church was filled, with the exception of the reserved seats, which were held for those who were attending their first lecture. Shortly after I was seated, an announcement was made asking those who had heard the lecture the previous evening at another Christian Science church, please to give their seats to those who were standing outside and had not heard it. This seemed like an unusual request to me, and I thought that surely no one would give up his seat, but to my great surprise many did so. I was much impressed by the large crowd which attended this lecture, by the fact that many people had come to hear it a second time, and also by their gracious attitude in relinquishing their seats. I realized at once that these people had something that I wanted.
After listening to a splendid explanation of simple, understandable truths from the lecturer, I went home and thought deeply about what I had heard and seen. A change began to take place in my thinking. There were many questions I wished to ask concerning the teachings of Christian Science, and so I called on the practitioner who was treating a member of my family. She told me some of the fundamental truths of this Science and I was satisfied that it was not only what I needed but what I wanted.
