That "man's extremity is God's...
That "man's extremity is God's opportunity," I can surely testify. The last twenty years of my life previous to coming into Christian Science had been miserable with physical suffering and surgical operations. The climax came when I was afflicted with acute rheumatism in my jaws. After seven months of agony the condition suddenly worsened. I could neither sleep nor eat, and I could speak only with great difficulty. The physician prescribed electric treatment, which he said would alleviate the pain but would not cure me. I went to my sister in a state of great depression. She was a new student of Christian Science, and urged me to go to a Reading Room and ask for help. This I did, and with a few kind words was sent home with a borrowed copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
As soon as I entered the house I began to read. After reading for a few minutes I was completely healed of the painful condition, and was physically regenerated and spiritually blessed.
A few weeks later I had the opportunity again to demonstrate the healing power of Christian Science, which I was now earnestly studying. I had an attack of migraine, from which I had suffered since childhood, having never found any material remedy which would cure it. I applied the truth as we are taught to do in Christian Science, and I received an instantaneous healing.
