An Extra Room

At the present time, when many are experiencing cramped housing conditions and finding it necessary to establish or reestablish a home, what comfort and assurance are to be found in this verse from the ninetieth Psalm (verse 1): "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations."

In this statement the Psalmist set forth a great spiritual law. He recognized that man dwells solely in God. Hence it follows that man can never really lack home, because it is, as the Psalmist declared, in God, divine Spirit. In this spiritually mental home there is no room for dissension, confusion, fear, loneliness, or any of the etceteras of mortal thinking. In the infinitude of Spirit there can be no limited home conditions, since divine Love is ever bestowing abundant good on His spiritual idea, man.

An assistant librarian at a Christian Science Reading Room was talking to a visitor who complained that she was much disturbed because she was unable to do her studying in Christian Science on account of the smallness of her house and the fact that another person shared it with her. The librarian was prompted to point out that the Reading Room was an ideal place to consider as an extra room, a room to which she could retire to find quiet and peace for study and prayer. This aroused the visitor's interest and she resolved to use the Reading Room as her extra room. She left joyously, freed from the cramped sense regarding her material surroundings.
