Our Reading Rooms

The Holy Purpose

Recently, on different occasions, two former residents of a town where Mrs. Eddy once lived, came to the Reading Room to ask whether information they had been given concerning our Leader was true or false. The librarian, in each case, corrected the spurious information and lent a copy of "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur to one of these seekers for the truth. Both inquirers were very grateful for the true facts.

A discontented and worried young woman asked the librarian if Christian Science could help her. She did not tell the problem which seemed to be troubling her. She was gently assured that Science surely could and would help her, and was shown the list of practitioners in The Christian Science Journal. After purchasing a copy of the Journal, she left the Reading Room and went to call on a practitioner.

A few weeks later she returned to say that her talks with the practitioner had been the grandest experiences of her life. Thereafter, she returned regularly to the Reading Room to study and to purchase all the periodicals, including the Christian Science Quarterly, containing the Lesson-Sermons. She expressed gratitude for the loving interest that had been shown her in the Reading Room and soon afterward became a faithful church attendant.
