I gratefully acknowledge all that Christian Science has done for my family and for me in the twenty years we have studied it.

My attention was first called to Science when I was a child visiting at the home of a relative who was a Reader in a Christian Science church. Every morning he was in his study, reading the Bible and Science and Health. His family told us that he had been healed of a quick temper and of swearing. While I was there his little girl had a tooth extracted and experienced no pain from it.

Many years afterwards I was visiting at the home of another relative who was studying Christian Science. She said very little to me about Science, but she did say that formerly she had thought of God as a person a long way off, but now she thought of Him as ever-present Love. This was just what I needed, for although I was a Sunday School teacher in an orthodox church my concept of God had been that of an enlarged man on a throne somewhere in the sky. My relative gave me some literature. Later, at the time of the first World War, after influenza had left me weakened physically and mentally, I found in this literature an article on receptivity. While I was studying it I received my first healing. I felt entirely well, and was able to go about the work that I had to do.
