Don't Be a "Poor" Thinker!

Entering upon a radically different vocation and lacking financial reserve, a young student of Christian Science was forced to look with courage and faith to God as the source of his supply. Because his expenses were daily mounting and there was no indication that his income would soon be increased, he became fearful as to the wisdom of the change. Then one morning, over the telephone, a friend reassured him in these words: "Remember, the 'poor' thinker would wish to have an assured income, rather than to live each day 'by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.'" All sense of fear and doubt vanished at this startling declaration, the truth of which he instantly recognized and accepted. With this awakening came the resolve to remain awake by outlawing poor thinking forever.

The question of how best to distinguish between poor thinking and truly rich or Godlike thoughts arose in the mind of the student. As he searched the Bible, this illuminating passage was found (lsa. 55:8): "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." Suddenly there dawned in his consciousness the realization that since God is the only Mind of man, there can be no competitive mind even to claim to think poor thoughts. Then he reasoned that to walk in His way and to reflect His thoughts must indeed be the ultimate of right thinking.

What a great joy it was for him to realize that when, through a hunger for spiritual understanding, we sincerely seek God's help, He never fails us! What a sense of security is ours when in combating the arguments of lack and discord we make use of the Bible, of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader's other writings, and the Concordances to all these. Suffice it to say that because the student recognized, accepted, and demonstrated the truth pointed out by his devoted friend, the new business experience proved replete with blessings. His need of supply was met through the rich unfoldment of ideas which are continuing to bless him daily.
