Does
Love demand
You lay upon the altar
Your cherished hopes,
Your plans, your friendships,
And your visioned joy?
If this is serving God,
Then go and kneel
In willing self-surrender,
Strengthened by the prayer,
"Thy will be done,"
Confident that Love's eternal goodness
Will recompense your loss
With heaven's gain.
Be not afraid;
Do not rebel. Instead,
In patient service
Find the promised joy
Enlarged and brought to glad fruition,
Safe in Soul,
Wherein the son of man
Beholds in truth
The son of God,
And hears, "My son,
Beloved of Love,
With thee I am well pleased."
