"And I will dwell among the...

"And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel." This passage from I Kings (6:13) is one which I think of when expressing gratitude for the help I have received in Christian Science.

At the time of my father's passing on I was left in charge of a building that was heavily mortgaged. Since it was during the time the government was granting moratoriums, this arrangement had been taken advantage of, but the mortgagee denied the chance for renewal and took the case to trial. I felt that this was my problem to work out, so I did not ask help of a practitioner. Some of the work I did by looking up references in the Concordances to the Bible and to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on judgment, justice, inheritance, and so forth, applying to the problem the truths found.

I disliked the thought of the trial with people there out of curiosity, but during that time there were only three spectators, and those were friends especially interested. The judge was very kind during the proceedings and gave a verdict for a two-year moratorium, while I had asked for only one. The case was then taken to the State Supreme Court and used as a test case. The opponents tried to set the date forward and do other things to obstruct, but without success. The case was won, and later, when it seemed impossible to get someone to take the mortgage, a man whom I did not then know came and offered to take it. He has been very just and kind in his dealings.
