Man Is Maintained by God
"Every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind. The human mind has no power to kill or to cure, and it has no control over God's man. The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness," writes our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 151 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Here is an invincible armor for those who are still serving their country in the air, on the land, and at sea, and also for those who are doing all manner of work in the home, in the office, in the factory, or on the farm.
Men and nations are continually striving to maintain and preserve themselves. This struggle for survival has many times meant war, which has left poverty, famine, and pestilence in its wake. While the victors may have gained the objective that they were seeking, namely, increased territory for expansion and more worldly goods to satisfy their sense of materiality, they have never succeeded in completely enslaving or for long suppressing those God-fearing peoples who were sustained and maintained by their absolute reliance upon their heavenly Father.
At the present time mankind is recognizing more than ever the fact that the brutish and physical cannot stand against the moral and spiritual. Many are becoming aware in some measure that true maintenance comes from God and is ever present. They are proving time and time again in Christian Science that God's power and presence are available to all in season and out of season, and that, in fact, there is no "off" season. Man's maintenance is never separated from him, because it is the continuous gift of Mind to its idea. Man is never deprived of the continuous operation of God's law of supply for His son.
