"If I be lifted up"

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." Just what do these words of Christ Jesus' mean to the one who would understand his teachings, and follow on to do the works that he did, proving God to be divine Principle, knowable and demonstrable? What is this attraction which has irresistible power to draw all men unto it?

Mary Baker Eddy answers this question on page 102 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says: "There is but one real attraction, that of Spirit. The pointing of the needle to the pole symbolizes this all-embracing power or the attraction of God, divine Mind."

How can the Christ, Truth, be lifted up in the world and fulfill this law of attraction? How can it be shown as desirable above all else and potent above all other means? Christian Science points the way and shows it to be an individual way. Each student of Christian Science must see for himself the desirability, the loveliness, the power of the Christ, and so reflect, embody, this grace and loveliness, this potency, in his daily living that he will draw men unto the Christ, Truth. Of him it may be said: "Then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.... Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways."
