Love Ensures Freedom

Another outstanding short sentence in Science and Health is (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." Yes, Love, God, leads the way to freedom from all that is baneful in the human sense of life. It reveals the Christ-way, the way Jesus taught in his Sermon on the Mount, as the only way.

The human sense of love, while often including much that is good and commendable, is not the love that makes us free. Only the pure love that emanates from God can be relied upon to bring us freedom, peace, and happiness. Christian Science teaches that man is the reflection of these qualities of perfect Love. Love, as God, is all-inclusive. It embraces all the virtues. Spiritual love enables one to be kind, patient, forgiving, unselfish, just, merciful, meek, courageous, honest, strong, and pure. This meant that I had to separate my thought of them from any sense of evil by steadfastly looking for and expecting only good from God's perfect ideas, which in reality these men were.
