When I was a student in high school...

When I was a student in high school and college I was attracted to the teachings of Christian Science in Mrs. Eddy's great work, our textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I found the book very uplifting at times, but I was unable apparently to make a convincing demonstration over sickness.

About six years ago however, I had an inspiring experience in guidance and protection through complete reliance on the teachings of the Bible and our textbook. Furthermore, God healed me of persistent painful attacks of lumbago, which had compelled me to keep off my feet for several days at a time. The healing, merely through my studying the textbook for several weeks, of a disease believed to be incurable by many in the medical profession, opened my eyes spiritually, and since then I have endeavored to live the life of a loyal Christian Scientist.

This new and beautiful way of living has been a wonderful help to me during my four years in the Army. I have been healed of many physical troubles, including neuritis, colds, headaches, weak eyes, and sore throat. On a number of occasions when I have realized to some degree the truth of the marginal heading in Science and Health (p. 218), "Mind never weary," I have been sustained during hikes and long sessions on the drill field.
