Christian Science came to me...

Christian Science came to me through the mother of a friend of mine. She lent me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I read at random, and I attended church services a few times. Her explanations of Christian Science interested me, but I did not understand them because they were so different from what I had been taught. I said they were too good to be true.

About two years later, when I was weak from an operation, unable to care for my small son, and very much discouraged because I was not gaining strength faster, my friend told me that she had begun to study Christian Science. I saw that she was: in earnest, and I said that if she could get anything out of it, I could too.

I borrowed Science and Health from the public library. This time I started at the beginning of the book, with the intention of understanding it rather than of benefiting physically. The pages seemed illuminated. The first chapter, on Prayer, was especially beautiful and helpful to me. Aside from the few household duties I was able to attend to, I did nothing but read, and soon found myself stronger and able to have my son with me again. I knew from the first that I belonged in the Christian Science church.
