Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Braintree, Massachusetts (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Braintree, formally dedicated its new edifice at 250 Washington Street, with morning and evening services, on Sunday, October 21, 1945. The usual Sunday service was augmented by the reading of a brief history of the church.

In 1901, several Christian Scientists began meeting in private homes to conduct informal Sunday services, and these gatherings soon culminated in the formation of a church. During the next ten years the church services were held in various places in Braintree—first in Pythian Hall in Storrs Square, later in a remodeled private home on the corner of Washington and Webster Streets, and finally in Long's Block.
