The Childlike Grasp of Truth

A Nine-Year-Old girl was playing in the yard with her dolls when a noise overhead attracted her attention. Looking up she saw an airplane on fire. The noise had attracted her mother, who was much concerned lest the plane fall on the house, but the little girl, with a calm assurance born of her Sunday school teaching, said: "We don't need to be afraid, Mother. God is up there with them, and God is down here with us." In relating the experience afterward, the mother said that the little girl kept repeating, "God is up there, and God is down here," until she knew that the plane had landed and that the three men in it were safe.

Many are those who have turned to the promises of the Bible in times of danger and have been helped immediately, and often in what, to those unacquainted with the protecting power of God, would seem to be a very miraculous manner. The men and women returning from service in the armed forces frequently tell of their experiences, and of special verses from the Bible which have been of great help and comfort to them in times of danger. One verse, often quoted, is found in Deuteronomy and reads (33:27), "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them." What a blessing it is to know that divine Love is always at hand to protect and sustain one!

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has rendered a great service to humanity in giving to mankind the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book is indeed a "key" to the Scriptures, unlocking, as it does, the precious promises of the Bible as no other book has ever done. Through the study of the Bible in the light which this book throws upon it, one learns that man is not a material being made up of flesh and bones and subject to decay and dissolution, but that he is Mind's idea, the perfect image and likeness of God.
