Gratitude, Not Elation

A Man sat in the office of a Christian Science practitioner joyously discussing his recent recovery from a serious illness. This healing had been brought about through Christian Science treatment given by the practitioner, and victory had been won only after a protracted struggle of several weeks. More than once the man had seemed to be walking "through the valley of the shadow;" again and again he had despaired of recovery. But the practitioner had been fearless, firm, and strong.

"And now," finally exclaimed the rejuvenated one, "I am perfectly well! And I certainly am grateful:"

The practitioner smiled and replied: "You are certainly elated; but I have heard no word of gratitude to God. Don't forget that He, and He alone, has healed you. The truth that God is All-in-all led us to perceive and to declare the unreality of disease. In the realized glory of His presence the fearful images of sickness and death faded away. Truth remained, and now fills your consciousness. Therefore you say, 'I am healed.' And you are. But this is God's work. Let us joyfully give to Him the glory."
