When Christian Science was first...
When Christian Science was first presented to me, I demanded proof that it taught the truth. I thought myself an avowed skeptic, even an agnostic. I had become thus when an elder brother passed on in his teens, and my questions regarding it went unanswered by the orthodox church I attended. I became a scoffer and a scorner of the Bible. I was grieved that Christianity had become ineffectual, unsatisfying, and lacking in real comfort. I had to have a righteous God, or none at all.
Therefore my acceptance of Christian Science was slow and cautious. I did not wish to be disappointed again. My prejudices were deep-seated and gave way only as, step by step, I was able to understand and prove its teachings. And only as the spiritual meaning and interpretation of the Bible, revealed in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, opened my understanding to see Science as prophecy fulfilled, did I gladly, gratefully, and without reservation accept it, and put on the "armour of God." I am more grateful than words can express that I am now able to accept this Science, see its "beauty of holiness." and in some measure grasp God's omnipresence, omnipotence, and omniscience.
Aside from the important and necessary healing of my disbelief in a God-inspired Bible, there have been numerous physical healings. Outstanding among these was the healing of a condition of my knee which four doctors had diagnosed differently, and which none had helped. An internal cancer in its final stages was healed instantaneously in one absent treatment by the work of a devout and consecrated practitioner.
