Doubts and fears concerning...
Doubts and fears concerning God and life here and hereafter had been a torment to me before Christian Science came to my attention. I was unable to reconcile the sickness and misery in human experience with what I had been taught of an all-wise, omnipotent heavenly Father.
One day a friend told me that she was studying Christian Science, and explained briefly that according to its teaching God is not the author of sickness or of any form of discord. Eagerly I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. As I read through the Preface and on into the chapter on Prayer, all doubts were dispelled and fears began to fade. I glimpsed the great healing truth demonstrated by our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, that since God to be God, must be infinite good, the presence of evil in any shape or form is impossible. The peace of mind and quiet happiness this brought me were beyond anything I had known before.
Later on I was completely healed of violent sick headaches. The Christian Science practitioner to whom I applied for treatment in this connection, insisted with loving patience upon the fact of God's allness and the consequent unreality of evil, until the many "ifs" and "buts" of fear and lack of faith on my part were finally overcome, and I found myself free. Moods of depression, bad temper, a restless, discontented sense of life, and extreme self-consciousness are some of the evidences of discordant thinking which were banished as my view of God and His perfect universe grew clearer in the light of Christian Science.
