For approximately twenty-six...

For approximately twenty-six years I have been a student of Christian Science. The good that has flowed in an unending stream to me and to my family prompts this testimony.

During my four years in the Christian Science Sunday School I learned that the truths of the Bible were mine to ponder and use. They were of value to me only as I made the effort to understand and apply them. The lives of the prophets and Jesus' great example, together with the Lord's Prayer and the Beatitudes, provided me with living, powerful instructions.

I have found that this Science, the ever-operative law of Love, never deserts us. As daily life presents new duties, so does Truth's supreme wisdom appear simultaneously to meet all our needs. As one of our beloved hymns (Hymnal, No. 354) says:

'Tis God the Spirit leads
In paths before unknown;
The work to be performed is ours,
The strength is all His own.

The first fruits from the study of Christian Science appeared while I was a student in the Sunday school. I was healed of the need of wearing glasses which I had worn for some nine years. I was also healed of acute indigestion and some minor difficulties. These troubles just dropped away as my interesting study of the Bible and Science and Health progressed.

When I was a young businesswoman the "still small voice" inspired me to make a statement to those in authority regarding a dishonest condition that had evidently been in existence for some years. Instead of being penalized by my action I was protected, and lifted out of the situation. Ever since I was a young bride, Science has enabled me to bring to my home those qualities which maintain it in harmony and usefulness. The chapter on Marriage in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy was and still is invaluable to me.

Our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 445). "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick." This statement was a great help to me when our two children were born. The births were quick and harmonious. The truths of Christian Science were helpful to me, too, in the feeding of these little tots. The children are now grown to teen age and are proving Science for themselves.

Truth taught me, as a young mother, patience and wisdom in bringing up the children; it dissolved any gnawing fears of the unexpected. I learned to live each day fully, and to let the children grow up with the same confidence. Throughout my experience now runs this current of truth that says, "It is well" (II Kings 4:26). I am learning to love mankind more each day, and the effort to do so brings unmistakable signs of unfoldment of character in more tolerance, patience, alertness, and happiness.

I thank our Leader wholeheartedly for giving to the world the "Key to the Scriptures;" also for her gift of The Mother Church and its organization, which keeps this revelation of Truth unadulterated. Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church provides opportunities for living an active and happy life.— (Mrs.) Frances E. Mackelcan Mears, Garden City, Long Island, New York.
