"Life's burdens light"
After a very busy day with work which extended well into the night, a Christian Science practitioner received by telephone in the early morning an urgent call for help, coupled with a request for the practitioner's presence. The first reaction when the telephone rang was a mental protest. The human mind cried out that it needed rest in sleep, that the burden was too heavy.
As the practitioner lifted her thought more earnestly to God, the angel thought came to her, "I will work for God." and the sense of responsibility lightened. As she slipped into her clothes another idea came: "I am working with God." How could she bear a heavy sense of responsibility when she was in partnership with God, the omnipotent Father-Mother, the great Physician, who never failed to heal? With lightened steps she started on her way. Then there dawned upon her receptive thought a holy benediction in the words, "I will see God work." All burdens dropped. She was going forth, her hand in His, to bear witness to the omnipotence of good and the powerlessness of evil.
This busy worker in Science impressed all who knew her by her joyous childlikeness, buoyancy, and loving-kindness. Results from such unquestioning reliance on God, Spirit, for healing, as here depicted, must always be in scientific accordance with the Scriptural declaration (Ps. 33:9), "He spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast."
