The Real Body

Yearning to be free from the sufferings, limitations, and imperfections of a material sense of body, many people have turned for help to the works of Christ Jesus recorded in the Bible.

Outstanding among these people was Mary Baker Eddy, who, through her prayerful search of the Scriptures, discovered that the Master's demonstrations were based on a definite Science. Her discovery she named Christian Science, and in order to elucidate it she wrote "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." As a result, everyone earnestly studying Science and Health in conjunction with the Bible can find with certainty the only true way to overcome physical problems.

Two of the extraordinary acts of the Master, illuminated by Christian Science, occurred at the time the disciples were on their way to Capernaum. When they saw Jesus walking to them across the water, it is recorded by John, "they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went" (John 6:21). Being transported from one place to another instantly and being able to walk on the water are explained by a statement in Science and Health (p. 90): "Divest yourself of the thought that there can be substance in matter, and the movements and transitions now possible for mortal mind will be found to be equally possible for the body." This passage makes it clear that the foundation of these acts of Jesus was his understanding that there is no substance in matter.
