A Positive Outlook

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

One morning on awakening I found that I could hardly speak. Lifting thought to the spiritual truth as taught in Christian Science, I immediately affirmed the harmonious reality of man's being as the perfect child of God. Just then the neighbors switched on their radio. From it came the words of a popular song. "Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative." I fairly jumped at the scientific healing message implied in these words. Joyously accentuating the positive. I began my day, and in a short time I was free.

How vital is positive thinking to Christian Scientists! Indeed, it is a criterion that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, set many years ago, when she wrote (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 206), "The real Christian Scientist is constantly accentuating harmony in word and deed, mentally and orally, perpetually repeating this diapason of heaven: 'Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love.' "

"Constantly" and "perpetually" are absolute terms. They allow no vacillation or alteration. There can be no interruption in the harmony of Life, in the flow of God's goodness, in the tender care of Love. "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
