God's Angel

Bound amidst the raging fires of hate
Kindled by the tyrant's angry hand.
Stood three boys, alone yet unafraid,
Knowing man in God's own image made,
Firm against the king's unjust command.

No graven idol would they call their God,
Truth's "still small voice" more strong than error's roar.
They knew God's presence with them ever dwelled,
And suddenly one looking on beheld
Within the flames there stood not three, but four!

So may we still, when pressed by evil's claim,
Yield not, but in His love our refuge find,
And fear no mortal foe, for He is All.
Then will the chains of coward evil fall;
God's angel thought each fetter will unbind.
