The third chapter of Exodus...

The third chapter of Exodus (second verse) states: "And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed."

This statement brings to mind an experience I had when it was necessary to go through the gas chamber during my basic training. Being a student of Christian Science. I was not afraid, but fear was voiced all around me. I tried to comfort the boys by telling them that hundreds of thousands and even millions had gone through the same experience and had come out of the training all right.

The day we were to go through the gas I was late arriving there from my work. Approximately one hundred and fifty men had gone through the chamber and were out in the field coughing and choking, with tears streaming down their cheeks. I had the greatest sense of compassion for our men, and just stood still until I could see that God is all-powerful. Mary Baker Eddy states on page 293 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "The material so-called gases and forces are counterfeits of the spiritual forces of divine Mind, whose potency is Truth, whose attraction is Love, whose adhesion and cohesion are Life, perpetuating the eternal facts of being." I was able to go through the procedure with and without the gas mask without discomfort.
