In obedience to the Scripture...
In obedience to the Scripture (Ps.107:2), "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so," a prayer goes with this testimony that the stranger to Christian Science may feel strengthened and assured that God does guide and care for His children. I stand as a witness to the fact that we can hear God's voice, if we but listen.
I cried out in despair for an answer to the reason and purpose of earthly existence. When our first boy came, and with him the feeling of responsibility that I was to guide, teach, and keep him well, I was overwhelmed. My teachings of medicine, and those of the church of which I was an active member, did not guarantee lasting good for my dear ones. If only health and harmony could in some way be made secure! I desired to be a good parent, and yet the possibility that sickness and inharmony might come to any of us at any time made me feel discouraged. Friends in the medical profession lovingly tried to find answers to satisfy my discontent. When the church said that such experiences were God-sent, I truly felt I had nothing, for I did not want to know any more about this kind of God.
I am very grateful for my husband's constant co-operation and encouragement during this period. In despair I turned to God and asked to be shown the way to give my children some understanding of happiness and freedom. It has been said that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." We have proved these words to be true, for God's answer came, through the "still small voice," in these words: "Why don't you find out about Christian Science?"
