Doing versus Trying

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

The members of a Sunday-school class in a Christian Science church brought many questions and problems to its sessions. Often they felt that they had rather hard sledding in their daily schoolwork because many subjects that were mandatory were opposed to their religious views.

When this question came up the pupils were shown that here was an opportunity to distinguish more clearly between the spiritually real and the materially unreal, while they studied obediently the theories presented in school, it was also pointed out that the making of this distinction was essential, because later they might meet difficulties and temptations in the business and social world. or even in their own homes: and that, if they were faithful in solving the problems set before them now, they would more easily overcome any that might later appear.

There were times when discerning thinking seemed difficult, and the words, "Well. I'll try," would be voiced. This was always followed by a laughing withdrawal of the statement, which was replaced by, "No! I'll do it."
