What good does it do to go to church regularly on Sundays; to listen to sermons we sometimes cannot remember? Do we gain anything at all by hearing the same familiar texts, the same time-honored exhortations? Does not repetition dull our minds and make us spiritually unreceptive to precepts we have heard so often?

The story is told of a religious skeptic who, coming upon a country woman bleaching clothes in a sunny meadow, asked her if she went to church every Sunday. The woman replied she did. Whereupon the man said, "Well could you tell me what the preacher talked about last Sunday?"
