Our Reading Rooms
"A word in season"
One evening the door of our Reading Room opened and from the threshold a man said: "I'm a liquor dealer. I want to be healed of it. Can Christian Science heal me? And if so, how do I go about it?"
The librarian asked him why he wanted to be healed of his livelihood and, stepping inside the Reading Room, he replied: "The wife of one of my best customers begged me to stop selling liquor to her husband. She said that liquor is breaking up their home; that because her husband spends so much money on drink, his family of small children are often without adequate food. I never realized before that my business, which brings me a good income, could cause so much suffering."
The librarian recognized his earnestness and asked him to sit down and have a talk. The simple, basic truths of Christian Science were explained. The man asked many searching questions and listened attentively to the answers. Then the librarian recommended that he accept a copy of Science and Health and some Christian Science literature, including The Christian Science Journal, which contains a list of recognized practitioners. The librarian further recommended that he select a practitioner and request treatment in Christian Science.
