I was reared in what might be...
I was reared in what might be considered a very religious home, where the Bible was read every day and the family often turned to prayer; but there were many problems. During my childhood I was troubled and often perplexed. When I grew to womanhood and established my own home, I was still confronted with problems, and I finally decided that, life itself was more or less of a dilemma.
Our little son was constantly under the care of physicians. At the age of four he underwent an operation, but still his health did not improve. We noticed shortly thereafter that his hearing was seriously impaired; and it also became necessary for him to wear a surgical belt for a rupture.
Christian Science had often come to my attention through the friendship of a young girl who was a Scientist. When problems overwhelmed me, I often turned to her for comfort. One day when I had reached the point of exhaustion because of accumulated troubles, the thought came to me to call a Christian Science practitioner for help. I opened the telephone directory and found one listed near my home. When I called her I mentioned that I was a stranger, that I did not know her, nor did she know me. She simply replied. "God knows." I felt as if I had touched the hem of Christ's robe. The load which had been so real to me, and which I had carried for so many years, lifted at that moment. An appointment was made with her for that afternoon, and when I returned later to my home there was confidence and assurance in my thought to a degree that I had never experienced before. I had mentioned our son's hearing problem to the practitioner, and she assured me that it could be healed through Science.
