A Christian Science Lecture—A Glimpse of Reality
A Stone thrown in the water produces waves that widen and widen, and may reach farther than one can see. Just so is the effect of a Christian Science lecture, for Truth has far-reaching effects on human consciousness and in human experience, though they may not be apparent to a finite sense of things.
Frequently we hear that a Christian Science lecture has been an individual's first ray of light in the night of materialism. This was so in the writer's case. The first time she attended a Christian Science lecture she was healed of unbelief and hopelessness. She left that lecture hall feeling "born again," with a firm conviction that she had at last found the way of Life. Immediately a consistent study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was begun, and it resulted in several quick and permanent physical healings.
For those who have heard and obeyed the spiritual call to come, the lecturer lifts up the wonderful mirror of Christian Science. For the brief space of one hour they are helped to behold their true nature as the children of the One "altogether lovely," endowed with the glorious heritage of purity, intelligence, strength, abundance, love, health—the beauty of holiness. They may get a glimpse of God's universe, wherein all dwell together in peace, reflecting good will and brotherly love. There is no limit to what such spiritual illumination can accomplish when a false concept of self as material is forgotten and the mesmeric states of sin, sorrow, discouragement, despair, hatred, poverty, disease, and pain loosen their grasp.
