When I was quite a youngster I...

When I was quite a youngster I was active and strong, but at the age of twelve I became very lame. When a surgeon examined me he decided that the difficulty was bone tuberculosis. One operation was performed with very little success, and the surgeon said that another was necessary, with the possibility of the limb being amputated.

My family were opposed to what they thought Christian Science was but when an aunt recommended that we try it after everything else failed, it was decided to write to a practitioner in a distant town. She very lovingly took up the work for me, and within two weeks I was able to walk short distances without crutches. Within a month I was riding horseback again. Since then I have led a very busy and active life, and have taken part in various strenuous sports such as tennis, skiing, and so forth. It was not until the practitioner and I were both in Boston many years later that I met her for the healing had been brought about by absent treatment.

I have experienced many other healings during the intervening years, some of which were of rheumatism, influenza, and pneumonia. I am grateful also for protection from accident while on a motor trip, and for guidance in my daily living.
