Morning Hymn

With my morning thought awaking.
Let me come in prayer to Thee,
Asking that the day unfolding
May reflect Thy grace in me;
Let each hour to fullest purpose
Spent in earnest to fulfill,
Be the light of my endeavor
Consecrated to Thy will.

Should I stumble on the journey,
Should a passing cloud obscure
All the sunshine of Thy presence,
And a sadness still endure,
Let not condemnation darken
Thought that should in Thee confide,
But Thy promised benediction
Be the light at eventide.

While I strive to know the kingdom
Of our God is here at hand,
Every day a day of progress
On toward the promised land—
On beyond all thought retarding.
On with healing truths to know.
Safe beneath Thy sheltering feathers.
In Thy love, dear God, I go!
