Man's Work
God forever holds His creation, including man, in tender, compassionate love. He rejoices continuously in the perfection of His work. His love for His creation is a preserving love, and its zenith is seen in the fact that He "created man in his own image" (Gen. 1:27). And His love is reflected by His image, man. It may thus be seen that man's work is to express God.
Do not these spiritual truths give us a clue to our work, the demonstrating of love for God and His man? This is in accord with the teaching of the Master. To a lawyer's inquiry. "Which is the great commandment in the law?" Christ Jesus answered: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matt. 22:36, 39). The life of Jesus was indeed a series of inspiring demonstrations of his obedience to these two great commandments.
To love God one needs to understand Him. But a spiritual understanding of God is gained only through seeking and praying. Its attainment requires consistent and consecrated study of the Bible and the Christian Science text-book. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. He who desires to love God more does not seek in vain when he turns to these sources for guidance.
