There Is No Fear

A Woman once sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner for healing of a condition of ossification. While waiting in the outer office, she opened a copy of "Retrospection and Introspection" by Mary Baker Eddy to these words (p. 61): "Science saith to fear, 'You are the cause of all sickness; but you are a self-constituted falsity,—you are darkness, nothingness. You are without hope, and without God in the world. You do not exist, and have no right to exist, for "perfect Love casteth out fear."'"

"So it is fear," said the woman to herself. "This condition is nothing but fear externalized. But what am I afraid of?" Then she recalled that she had been fearful for someone she loved.

A few moments later, in the practitioner's office, she told what she had read and what she feared. For half an hour the practitioner talked to her about the Love that casts out fear. She told her that fearing for the safety of her loved one was not loving him but was, indeed, doing the opposite, because it was believing him to be separated from God, in whom is perfect safety. Further, the practitioner explained, fear presupposed the existence of something besides God, good, when God is All-in-all. As the woman realized, in some measure, these truths, the fear subsided, and within two weeks every vestige of the abnormal condition had disappeared. Once more Christian Science had been proved the law of God, the law of Love, which casts out fear and heals disease.
