Christian Science Committee on Publication for Ohio Reports

Four items in the press required corrective replies during the year under review, one of which was a direct attack upon our Leader and Christian Science. This was an article appearing in the official magazine of another denomination in September of the preceding official year. The corrective letter from the Committee on Publication was published in full in the December issue of the magazine. The Committee is grateful that no adverse references to Christian Science have appeared in that church publication since then; previously, veiled references appeared frequently in that magazine.

In November, 1943, eight Ohio newspapers carried a syndicated article in which a reference, intended to be friendly toward Christian Science, gave an erroneous impression of our religion. Six of these newspapers printed the corrective reply sent them by the Committee on Publication. A ninth newspaper carrying this syndicated column deleted the reference to Christian Science before printing the article.

An article linking Christian Science with mental suggestion was printed in one Ohio newspaper. This gave the Committee on Publication an opportunity to write to the editor, setting forth the difference between the practice of Christian Science and mental suggestion. The editor willingly printed this corrective statement.
