I should like to express my gratitude for the many ways that Christian Science has made my army service more effective and harmonious. At the start, the change from comfortable civilian ways of living to the rigors of army life was accomplished by steadfast reliance on God as the source of strength and protection. An intensive course of instruction at an army school was completed with excellent grades by my adhering to the truth that my wisdom and mental capacity to retain ideas were spiritually bestowed and were therefore unrestricted by mortal beliefs of intellect.

On one occasion, while overseas, I was healed of influenza in three days with the help of a practitioner. I was asked to hold firmly in thought Mary Baker Eddy's statement in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 228): "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God." This healing gave me confidence that although thousands of miles away from home, I could not be separated from God's care and support.

I have been enabled to perform tasks that seemed beyond my ability and to complete my military duties satisfactorily by praying daily to express the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 2:5).
