The Attributes of Soul

In studying the Lesson-Sermon, many students of Christian Science watch for and observe the rules which especially apply to healing and conduct. One week, the writer was joyously searching for such rules in the Lesson on "Soul" when she came to a citation which told of John the Baptist sending two of his disciples to Jesus, asking, "Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?" And during the hour that followed Jesus healed many diseases and plagues, and "unto many that were blind he gave sight." Then he sent the disciples back to John, saying to them, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached"' (Luke 7:20-22).

Turning to the first reference from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the writer found the rule by which Jesus accomplished these beautiful healings, for on page 210 was this inspired passage: "Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds and bodies and giving a better understanding of Soul and salvation."

With eagerness she then turned to the Concordance and made a thorough study of the references in Science and Health on the subject of Soul to find out what its attributes are. This search revealed that our Leader speaks of the joys of Soul, the freedom of Soul, the harmony of Soul, the immortality of Soul, the radiance of Soul, the supremacy of Soul, the heaven of Soul, the capacity of Soul, the beauty of Soul, and the unchangeable nature of Soul.
