Christian Science Committee on Publication for France Reports

Though this fifth wartime report is not yet issued in restored peace, it marks already the return of this field to human liberty. What peals of gratitude rang in every heart on August 27, 1944, at the reopening of our Paris churches, which had been forcibly closed for one solid year. But what a rededication of our lives this recovered freedom of worship impels in the beloved religion of our choice!

Each year, throughout the German occupation of France, the Committee on Publication has read his annual report, in French as well as in English, to the assembled members of every branch church and society in France.

Perhaps it is to be expected that, owing to the circumstances of the past year, the Committee has little to report today. He must at any rate acknowledge the privilege of having constantly maintained a quite open activity in Paris throughout almost the entire period under consideration. This privilege had its main expression in the issuing and distribution of the Lesson-Sermon reprints made from the Christian Science Quarterly, since 1941. And it is with the more earnestness that we again give thanks for the renewed successful accomplishment of this task. In spite of all untoward conditions, the Quarterly was always duly received, and the English-French printed duplications were always obtained in due time. It indeed meant very much to all of us to be able to maintain our unity of study and meditation with the world-wide community of Christian Scientists.
