I am very grateful for Christian Science...
I am very grateful for Christian Science and wish to express the gratitude I feel that our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave its truths to the world so that they can be readily applied by its students. Christian Science gives us the law by which we can live our daily lives in harmony.
It was first presented to me by a woman who I later discovered was a Christian Science practitioner. Upon learning that I was without employment or funds and was greatly disheartened and discouraged she asked if I should like to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, if she lent me a copy. I told her I should, and I spent the next two days and nights reading it. When I went back to see her I was told to read it again and study it. I had received a peace I had not known before and tried to gain an understanding of God and man's relationship to Him. Within a very few days I received notice to report for work.
My first physical healing was of a broken rib. I refused medical aid and read the textbook. It seemed clear that man as God's idea could express only harmony. On page 424 of Science and Health, there is a paragraph with the marginal heading. "Accidents unknown to God." I saw that if God did not know it, I, as His idea, could not experience an accident. The next morning I was at work, completely healed. At the same time the desire for the use of tobacco left me and it has never returned.
