Sunday School Observations

The work of the Christian Science Sunday School is of great importance because its teaching reveals to the child what he in reality already is, God's eternal and perfect expression.

Mary Baker Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 4), "Simply asking that we may love God will never make us love Him; but the longing to be better and holier, expressed in daily watchfulness and in striving to assimilate more of the divine character, will mould and fashion us anew, until we awake in His likeness."

It is the privilege of the Sunday school teachers earnestly to strive to help the pupils to "assimilate more of the divine character." By consecrated study and practical application of the Ten Commandments the Lord's Prayer, and the Beatitudes, the young pupil obtains the understanding which ensures his success in all right endeavors. He must be taught why the Commandments and Beatitudes are of such importance. He must learn that these Bible lessons set forth basic rules, spiritual laws, to be scientifically understood and demonstrated.
