I wish to express my gratitude to God for having shown me through Christian Science the way of Truth.

In 1923 I had lung trouble, accompanied by severe hemorrhages. The physicians I consulted stated, after an examination, that my condition was very grave indeed, and they advised me to stay in bed and follow a strict diet. For four months I followed this advice, and I lost about fifty pounds. Since the doctors who were treating me gave me no more hope, we turned to a specialist in pulmonary diseases. He then had me enter a special sanatorium.

My thought was fixed on God, and I prayed continually that He would heal me. I was in this sanatorium a month, and my savings were used up, for the expenses were heavy. My health seemed much improved and I wished to return to my work, but my superiors advised me to ask to be pensioned, for I was in no condition to go on working. I took their advice. In a little while the disease reappeared. I was at the end of my physical and mental strength, and without hope.
