Committees for interviewing applicants for membership in Churches of Christ, Scientist, have a sacred duty and a happy privilege. In no other service to our Cause is there greater need for loving wisdom and spiritual discernment, for sympathetic understanding of human needs, and a keen appreciation of the joys of Christian fellowship. In proportion to a committee's recognition of the ever-presence of the divine Mind and of man's reflection of the qualities of that Mind, will the interview bless both applicant and committee and redound to the welfare and progress of the church. Certainly, in the kindly Christian atmosphere of such an interview will all sense of embarrassment or tension on the part of the applicant be dispelled, leaving him free to respond frankly and intelligently to the inquiries of the committee.
To be acceptable for membership an applicant should understand and love the simple fundamental truths of Christian Science; he should have already proved their availability and practicality in sufficient measure to be convinced that the spiritual nature of Christianly scientific healing distinguishes Christian Science from all other methods.
Interviews with applicants for membership in The Mother Church from the local district are conducted by a committee of three experienced Christian Scientists. They base their inquiries on fundamental points. In addition to the data given on the application forms and whatever may have been supplied by the applicant in writing, the committee aims to cover substantially the following points:
