Are You Tempted?
Mankind believes that there is a power apart from God; that an intelligence which is both good and evil governs man; and from this belief has proceeded all the discord of the ages. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 228) Mary Baker Eddy says: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God."
One who sins is condemned by the world because it is generally believed that sin is a condition over which one has control, and that sin is willful. One who indulges in sin or false appetite, however, is under the mesmeric belief that there is a tempting power apart from God which he has not the ability to resist. Should we be tempted to sin, we should know that temptation does not come from God, and that God is all-power, governing man in purity and sinlessness. When we see that man is governed by God alone, the temptation disappears. In the words of a hymn,
