A number of years ago I tried...
A number of years ago I tried to get rid of some excess flesh. I took off sixty pounds in a year. I did not take any medicine, as I had seen the uselessness of drugs long before I knew anything about Christian Science, but I took many kinds of baths and exercises. I became a very sick woman, but as my health grew better. I gained back the sixty pounds with compound interest.
Some years later I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of a member of my family. At that time I was working long hours, directing a school cafeteria, with almost no time for reading or studying. I weighed approximately two hundred and sixty-five pounds. I had a number of hard falls, but with the help of Christian Science I never missed a day from my work. The excess flesh began to disappear. Later, I had an illness which some people thought would prove fatal, but again Christian Science enabled me to remain active until school was out in June. My weight was then a little over two hundred pounds.
During the time of that three or four months' illness, I saw that tea and coffee were not essential to my well-being. I had been drinking tea and coffee "to keep me going," since I did not want food. I stopped using them at once, and I have never used them since. This took place about seven years ago. This decision, in the line of obedience, was a steppingstone which led directly to the healing of a stubborn case of obesity.
