The Christmas Radiance

With what awe and wonder the startled shepherds must have listened on that first Christmas morning to the angelic message! "Suddenly," says Luke, "there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." In those last words lies the key to Christ Jesus' entire mission. All his teaching and all his deeds confirmed the same theme—God's will toward men is good! God's will includes no evil, no ill-health, no disasters, no privation, no inactivity, no death, but it provides understanding, perfect health, strength, ample provision, and endows man with purity, vitality, and inextinguishable life.

This angelic message has never ceased to sound, although nearly two thousand years have passed since it was heard by the Judean shepherds. Its glad tidings are reaching people not only at the Christmas season, but every day, through the healing ministry of Christian Science. Thousands of people, each seeming to himself alone in his search for Truth or for health, are hearing of this healing religion, and saying to themselves, "I think I shall see for myself whether the glorious things I hear about Christian Science are true." And they are finding, as the angelic message promised, that God's will is good.

In the Renaissance paintings of the nativity, a radiance illumines the humble stable and the holy family. This is not only an exquisite concept of the artists, but is undoubtedly an accurate portrayal. Pure spirituality of thought is always radiant, and often is literally seen as light by those who are seeking it.
